Henri Peyre French Institute Travel Support to French Doctoral Candidates

The Henri Peyre French Institute wishes to help French doctoral students secure support for their scholarly endeavors, as evidenced in particular by travel to present at scholarly conferences.

We are thus now offering a measure of support for such travel to French doctoral candidates at ALL LEVELS, and no longer only at Level III-dissertation writing.

In order to better supplement the Graduate Center funds that are rapidly becoming scarce, the HPFI offers support for doctoral student travel according to ITS OWN CALENDAR CYCLES, as follows:

Conferences and scholarly meetings taking place between December 15 and April 15 of the following year.

Conferences and scholarly meetings taking place between April 15 and August 31.

In other words, it is assumed that the GC can provide support between September 1 and December 14.

Our resources are modest and our means are very limited, so you should thus generally expect that support is at a MAXIMUM of $300 and that our funds will be quickly used up.

Nonetheless, please do not hesitate to apply. To do so, please read the following instructions CAREFULLY.

LEVEL I, LEVEL II, or LEVEL III support for travel

IF you are LEVEL I, LEVEL II, or LEVEL III, and wish to apply for support for travel to give a paper at a scholarly conference, you must provide the following documentation:

–Evidence that you have previously applied for travel support to the standard Graduate Center sources for such support and have been denied funds

-Copy of the Conference Program showing your name and title of your paper or official confirmation that your paper was accepted.

-Request for the precise funds needed (amount, for what expenses)

-Any receipts that are available before you leave, and all others within two weeks of your return.

Exclusions: we cannot support travel to chair a panel or to merely attend a conference.

If you have received an award from us within one of two consecutive cycles, you may apply again but your application will only be considered at the end of the second cycle, and after all other conference and research travel funding requests have been considered.
